Whimsical Wavelengths
is an award winning science podcast hosted by Dr Jeffrey zurek (phD Volcanology/Geophysics) dedicated to exploring the scientific method, data and results, career paths in STEM, and the sausage making of science.
The American Writer Awards recognized Whimsical Wavelengths - A Science Podcast as 2026 Science Podcast of the Year.

Why the Show Exists
The main aim is to tie real world impacts to the academic work done around the world
So much is done every year that pushes our understanding forward. And it is rarely talked about in a comprehensive way. On whimsical wavelengths I try to weave scientific papers in to a coherent narrative. To tie what can be boring sounding titles to a rich tapestry which we can all learn from.
Sometimes on the show this takes the form of actual storytelling. A historical romp that investigates the history of a scientific topic or event. A look at how an event happened or how our understanding has changed over time. To understand the present vaccine schedule requires understanding how we got to the present!
